Save Energy with Nest Learning Thermostat This Winter

With Summer coming to an end and the cold and wet months approaching, now is the time to start thinking about how you can heat your home as economically as possible.

It can often be difficult trying to figure out which brand is best for you, so we wanted to do the hard work for you. Here at Electrical Showroom, our favourite is the Google Nest Learning Thermostat as it controls both your heating and hot water. Not only does it learn the temperatures you like and creates a custom schedule to efficiently heat your home to help save money [1], it can also be controlled from your phone or Google Assistant devices such as Nest Mini or Nest Hub. [2]

Let’s delve into our favourite features of the Nest Learning Thermostat.

Learns from you and programs itself

There are many programmable thermostats available, but some require more work than others. With Nest Learning Thermostat, it learns your habits and when you want certain temperatures after a couple of days of you manually changing the temperature. It then programmes itself and creates a weekly temperature schedule, unique to your home. Plus, it takes into consideration the weather outside, and it may switch on earlier or later, to make sure it meets your comfort needs.

Be in control, wherever you are

Still at work and decided to go for a last-minute dinner? Control your heating and hot water from Nest the app so you’re not heating an empty home.

Do you travel a lot? You don’t need to remember to change the temperature as you come and go, the thermostat will do it for you! It will automatically switch to a custom Eco temperature whilst you’re away. When you come back, it will switch back to your scheduled temperature. [3]

Nest Leaf and OpenTherm

Each time you adjust your thermostat to an energy-efficient temperature, you’ll see the Nest Leaf on the thermostat screen and in the Nest app. Over time, it becomes harder to earn a leaf, which encourages you to save even more energy. Not only are you saving energy, but you are also saving money, ideal for the environment and your wallet! You’ll also receive monthly reports on how well you’re doing and how you can improve to save energy.

Another energy-saving feature is the OpenTherm compatibility. As the heating gets to the set temperature, it will turn off to prevent overshooting the temperature.

Blends into your home

Nest Learning Thermostat is designed to blend into any home and is available in Stainless Steel, Copper, Black and White. It can be put on the wall, or you can purchase a stand (sold separately) to place it somewhere convenient in your home. It has a high-res colour display that includes Farsight, that shows you the time, temperature, and weather which can be read from across the room.

Boiler Plus Compliant

It is also Boiler Plus compliant and is compatible with most boilers. It does require professional installation, but once it’s installed, you don’t need to worry about it - it’s aim is to take care of you.

Better together

Google Nest products work amazingly together, making your smart home work even smarter, so there’s no need to get your phone when you need to command something.

With a Google Assistant device such as Nest Mini and Nest Hub, you can simply control your thermostat, just say “Hey Google, turn up my thermostat” and it will increase the temperature by a couple of degrees.

Plus, when combined with Nest Protect smoke and CO alarm it can prevent dangerous situations getting worse. When Nest Protect detects a harmful gas, it can tell the thermostat to turn off the boiler.
