Our Thoughts on the Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2
As the Summer season approaches, and we can see our loved ones again our home has never been more important. The age of wondering whether your home is safe, and sound are long gone with brands like Ring, we can quite literally “always be home”. It has never been a better time to upgrade your home security if you’ll bear with me this blog will explain the features between the original and best-selling Ring Video Doorbell V3 and the new and improved Ring Doorbell Pro 2.
The Ring V3 and the new Ring Pro 2 are both great devices and I will being going through some of the key differences and similarities of the doorbells to show how the brand has evolved and changed over the past years and how the new and improved features will help yourself and your family with your security needs.
Ring Video Doorbell V3 vs Ring Pro 2
The Ring V3 offers some amazing features, such as the ability to be battery powered or hardwired. This is bonus for me personally as I decided later that I wanted mine to be battery powered and didn’t have to go through the faff of returning items. This is apposed to the new Ring Pro 2 as it is hardwired only and is in a sleeker more streamlined style, the cosmetic differences are just that; it is up to you which one you prefer and therefore choose, some things have been kept the same between these doorbells such as the two way talk system being able to hear what someone says into the doorbell from your phone and respond in real time from anywhere in the world. A second similarity would be the advanced motion detection that not only can these doorbells detect motion and notify you when there is movement outside and around your house, it can tell the difference between an animal and a person and will only notify you when a person is detected within the vicinity of the doorbell.
Features of the Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2
Some key features of the new Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 on its own are things such as the upgrade in camera quality this has been upgraded from 1080p to 1536p. A slight but noticeable difference when seeing faces and number plates if you were using the doorbell road facing. A second new feature is the wide-angle head to toe lens that will show the whole of a person. This may be helpful if you wish to see what a person is holding before answering the door or alerting them you are home. Similarly, the new Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 has a bird’s eye view function meaning you can see the person from a higher angle which shows a crisper, clearer image of people’s faces and a view of there whole body from a top down angle. I see these changes as a step in the right direction as the older doorbells could face a drop off in quality from certain distances and lacked the ability to see the whole view of a person.
Features of the Ring Video Doorbell V3
The more original and previous Version 3 Doorbell has some features that the Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 does not have. This includes the V3 being able to be powered by the Ring Solar Panel which can be purchased separately. This means the doorbell will not need to be charged as frequently as normal, (depending on how much longer we have the sun out!). Another exclusive feature is the DIY installation option. Most people prefer to set the doorbell up themselves with the V3 you can! Simply attach the battery once charged, set up the doorbell through the ring app and screw the back plate onto the wall. A simple and easy setup to get started with your home security, as opposed to the Ring Doorbell Pro 2 which will need to be installed by a professional.
As you can see both of these doorbells, have their pros and cons and many differences, most being cosmetic and down to preference. If you want to get started with a simple to set up doorbell that will be reliable, I recommend the V3. If you want the newer design with upgrade features and a higher quality camera, that you can have set up and forget about I would recommend the Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2. Whichever one you choose you will have the comfort of knowing your home is protected whether you are out or in, you are always home with the doorbells.
